October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. It's our priority to ensure you have the resources you need to protect your assets. Here are a few ways that you can keep your crypto safe both on the app and on the web.

How to be Cyber Smart

Use a strong password

Studies show that longer passwords, or passphrases, are harder to crack. Use passwords or passphrases at least 10 characters in length, with a mix of uppercase and lowercase characters, numbers, and special symbols. A strong password may look something like: G7ka#U4P%Ep. You can also use a third-party website or application like One Password to generate a random and strong password.

Although it’s common, never use personal information as part of your password or passphrase and abstain from repetition. Instead, be sure to use unique passwords or passphrases for each online account you have. Try to avoid obvious keyboard paths or commonly used dictionary words when possible, and don’t recycle previously used passwords. There’s always a possibility that your older passwords were compromised in the past without your knowledge.

Avoid public hotspots

Hackers can use unsecured public connections to distribute malware and steal your personal information. When banking, managing digital assets or doing anything that involves sending sensitive data or money movement, make sure you’re connected to a trusted network.

Use trusted apps

Only use apps available in your device’s official store. Be wary of apps from unknown developers or those with limited or bad reviews. Keep your applications updated to ensure they have the latest security patches included.

If you connect it, protect it

Make sure you’re using up-to-date antivirus software for protection both at home and at work. Antivirus software is also available for mobile devices, which are an easy, common target for hackers and other bad actors.

All digital asset transactions involve risk, and the past performance of a digital asset or other financial product does not guarantee future results or returns. Cryptocurrencies are highly speculative in nature, involve a high degree of risk and can rapidly and significantly decrease in value. It is reasonably possible for the value of Cryptocurrencies to decrease to zero or near zero. While diversification may help spread risk, it does not assure a profit or protect against loss. Traders should consider their objectives and risks carefully before trading. Previous gains may not be representative of the experience of other customers and are not guarantees of future performance or success.
